ScareLA Set The Perfect Stage For This Year's Best Haunts

Anthony Avina

Come on, you can admit it. Most people have that secret part of them that enjoys the tantalizing horror of Halloween and the Horror genre as a whole. They enjoy the things that go bump in the night, and crave their scare fix. We here at On Request Magazine are right there with you fellow Horror lovers, and we were lucky enough to get invited back to ScareLA, the premier Los Angeles summer horror event of the year. Showcasing the upcoming months plans for horror film, television, haunted attractions and more, ScareLA 2015 was another spectacular year of scares, terror and fun!

From the moment you walked through the giant inflatable pumpkin outside the convention center, to the endless parade of cosplayers and actors in spectacularly horrific and awesome costumes and Hollywood grade makeup, ScareLA has no shortage of scary moments. Zombies wandered aimlessly through the convention, walking amongst the crowd in search of flesh. Haunted mazes such as Ward 13 were set up, giving fans glimpses into the upcoming years best haunted attractions.

The event held no shortage of news items either. For instance, fans and industry professionals alike were given a glimpse into a brand new maze for Halloween Horror Nights, the return of Michael Myers. He joins the list of incredible mazes this year, which include Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak, The Walking Dead and Insidious, (since the convention, Alien vs. Predator and horror comedy This Is The End have been added to the roster of mazes). The infamous Queen Mary Dark Harbor maze was in attendance as well, led by the Ringmaster herself, Scary Mary.

The event also had a special appearance from Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, as well as special screenings of films such as The Houses that October Built. Special FX makeup artists were in house to show off their tricks of the trade, and special showings of the latest in animatronic, special effects and set design were shown off for attendees for upcoming haunted attractions and more. Disney even showed up to give a special look at the lore and mystery of their infamous ghostly character, the Hatbox Ghost.

Halloween was definitely in the air on this incredible August weekend. With events starting in just a months time and the next couple of months sure to include some incredible films, television, and heart-pounding horror events and mazes, ScareLA's producers, Lora Ivanova, David Markland, Johanna Atilano, and Rick West have put together an incredible team who has brought one of this publications favorite conventions to life. From mini-haunts like Drunken Devil, Curse of Devil Swamp, and Field of Screams to the infamous group, The Decayed Brigade, (which goes around events in Southern California as "sliders" to slide across the ground on knee pads to scare a walking audience), ScareLA 2015 was a hauntingly good time, and we here at On Request Magazine look forward to the future of this event. Next year's calendar is already marked for ScareLA 2016, so be on the lookout as we get updates throughout the year on the latest haunted news!
