While the current music listener craves the latest and greatest in modern rock, I think we can all agree that there is a part of us that still enjoys the old school, classic rock and roll we all grew up on. Bands like Aerosmith and The Eagles kind of paved the way for the rock industry that currently exists, and in turn inspired thousands of bands and artists that followed them. One band has truly captured the essence of these rock pioneers, and that band is Space Apaches. With the recent release of their album, Smokin' Voyages, the band looks to reinvigorate the classic rock and roll scene.
Now as a warning, this is not an album most young teens will get behind. This is not filled with the modern rock theatricality and intensity that most bands have so elequently captured. This is very much an album that reflects a laid back, psychedelic rock and roll with a bit of a southern drawl in the vocals and guitar riffs. This is an album you can imagine playing in a live roadhouse setting, complete with drinking and dancing galore. With songs like "Sunrise", "Empty" and the hit single "Smile", this album captures not just a genre, but an entire generation of rock and roll fans that look to prove that their beloved music is not dead, and never will be.
Overall, Space Apaches' Smokin' Voyages is a fun, laid back album that will put a smile on your face and a tap in your step. The band's roots that are firmly planted in the Asheville, NC scene shine through brightly in this album, with the smooth guitar work that seems to blend southern rock, classic rock and blues guitar. This album is a boatload of fun, filled with both original and a couple of cover songs, and is something that is not to be missed.
