Ajay Mathur's '9 to 3' Takes The Listener On A Global Musical Journey

Anthony Avina

One wouldn't think automatically that an Indian-born, Swiss based singer-songwriter would eloquently capture the essence and soul of the Americana genre, and yet that is exactly what singer Ajay Mathur has done with his latest album, 9 to 3. After two highly successful releases over the last few years, Ajay is looking to showcase the beauty and heart that Americana music has to offer. 9 to 3 is a rich, powerful collection of various genres and cultures. There's really no other way to put it. Ajay Mathur has created a truly unique experience with this album, using his own life experiences to create funny, sometimes political, whole-hardheartedly romantic and even some anthem-like rock ballads that would make guitarists and rockers like Led Zeppelin proud. Songs like "Nothing Really Matters" captures are an ode to the days of rock anthems for sure, while songs like "All Up To Vanity" and "Latin Lover" combine the sounds of alt rock and jazz to create something original and fun. One of the best songs off this album though has to be the east meets west hit, "Oh Angel", which combines rich acoustic-like guitar work, classical harps and the beautiful sounds of the Indian sitar. If Tom Petty were to perform with Led Zeppelin, and adopt styles of music with each stop on a global tour from the lands they were playing in, then that is what this album would sound like. Classic rock, Americana, world and singer-songwriter fans alike will be able to find some great pleasure in listening to this work. Ajay Mathur has really done it again, capturing the heart and soul of not only his home or his genre, but of the various cultures of our world. It can be easily said that no one has captured the sound that Ajay has, and everyone should make sure to pick up their copy of Ajay Mathur's 9 to 3 today!
