If you are looking for truly gritty, down and tough Southern Rock, then we here at On Request Magazine have the band for you. With an interesting name like Chickenpox Party, we were intrigued enough to give the band a listen, and we were not disappointed. Their self-titled debut album showcases a master command of heavy guitar-work, raw vocals and a true collective work, rather than a slew of singles wrapped together in a neat bow that a lot of modern artists favor. This trio of artists from Brookhaven, MS have brought a heavy Blues and Southern Rock charm back into the current age of music. The inclusion of literary references at the beginning of songs like "Fair Weathered Friend" and "One More Nail" showcase a storytelling aspect that a lot of bands fail to capture, and emphasizes the band's harkening to the great album work of the 60's and 70's. Songs like "In the Woods" and "Ill Deliberation" showcase a strong vocal presence that blends perfectly with the fast-paced and heavy work of the guitars, and are prime examples of the domineering presence that this band has in the Southern Rock scene. While there isn't a continuous story being told in this album, the band does touch on some great topics that many people will want to listen to, from seduction and mortality to religious distaste and a hatred for mainstream music. These guys are truly living proof of the original, old-school approach to rock and roll. Musically and vocally these guys are great, and fans of rock and roll at it's finest will want to check out the self-titled album of Chickenpox Party, available now!
