Idiot Grins Prove That Soul Is Very Much Alive With 'Big Man'

Anthony Avina

While we here at On Request Magazine have primarily dealt with rock and roll artists, we are fans of great music in general. Music that captures our attention and makes us feel something. So when we were contacted to review the latest album from R&B artist Idiot Grins, (known as Big Man), we knew we had to jump at the chance, and we weren't disappointed.

Combining the sounds of soul and southern rock, the Oakland, California band is bringing back a heartfelt love for the genre and an authenticity that hasn't been seen in a long time. Songs like "All Alone", "Stack This" and the title track "Big Man" do a fantastic job highlighting the gritty, powerful vocals and the jazzy, southern soul melodies that the band effortlessly produces.

Overall, Idiot Grins does a wonderful job of helping to reinvigorate the soul genre. Passion and talent are clear driving forces in the band's career, and with help from Huey Lewis and the News legendary saxophonist Johnny Bamont and trumpeter Mic Gillette, the band proves that the genre is alive and well. Make sure to pick up your copy of Idiot Grins' "Big Man" now!
