Charlie Funk Stretches His Lyrical Muscles On 'Give Me A Groove'

Trippy, hair-raising and soul-thumping are just a few phrases I'd use to describe our latest incredible review, Charlie Funk's "Give Me A Groove," a brand new EP from legendary staff songwriter for True Groove Records, Charlie Maynard. The feelings and imagery conjured up in each track of this EP is nothing short of spectacular and eclectic, and takes listeners on a funk-infused journey.

After years of helping other artists with what has been described as "ninja-like" lyrical skills, Charlie Funk is ready to step into the spotlight with this EP, which combines classic 70's era funk with jazz-rock sound and soulful vocals. A nearly cinematic experience in of itself, the record takes the audience on a mind-bending adventure, and if you close your eyes, you can conjure up powerful images that play out like a film. From the spine-tingling and rock heavy hit "Lunch in Babylon," to the jazz band instant classic "It's Not A Joke," to the already hit single "Sexy Cutie," which is a welcome song in time for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday, this EP has managed to combine a bit of old school music with modern day flair.

Charlie Funk has created an amazing work of art with "Give Me A Groove." Featuring some of the more original and unique talents in the industry, from Spoken Word artist Marla Mase to bone-shattering guitarist Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton and more, this record proves that this artist has a true talent that deserves a spot in the limelight, and we here at On Request Magazine look forward to hearing more from this incredible musician in the years to come. Pick up your copies of this record on February 26th, 2016, and check out the official video and public streaming link for the EP down below.
